Context
BeHoneyBee is a children's clothing brand with its own tailoring atelier. Every design comes in standard sizes and as a commission cut to the child's measurements. The shop also runs a loyalty program called Honey Points.
The Challenge
A stock e-commerce platform can't take that kind of order. One item is both a sized SKU with a price and a commission with three measurements in centimeters. The usual workaround is an order note, which means retyping every piece by hand.
The constraint
There was no previous site, so the shop starts from zero. Today's version is a React prototype that runs entirely in the browser. A search engine sees an empty page, so the production shop gets server rendering.
The decisions, pinned where they live
Why we made it this way.

The fields are simply Name, Email, Address. The brand book wants it that way: money and data get plain words, no puns.
Every line shows the name, color and price. A parent sees exactly what they're ordering before paying.
Honey Points come off the order with one checkbox. A parent sees their balance and what it's worth.
The cart is called the hive, and the counter in the header shows how many pieces are in it.

Sizes by height in centimeters, with a chart of approximate age below. Made to measure starts under the cart button.

Honey Points tiers
The prototype shows the balance, the next tier's threshold and each tier's perks. The brand book later grew the program to five tiers, from Dělnice to Včelí královna.

Order status step by step
Confirmed, processing, shipped, delivered. After payment the prototype moves on to tracking with the order number. For custom sewing, “where is it” is the most common question.
The SEO thinking behind it
Prototype in the browser, shop on the server
Today the server sends an empty page and JavaScript draws the content. That isn't enough for search engines, so the production storefront renders pages on the server.
Its own address for every screen
The shop, loyalty program, checkout and order tracking each have their own URL path. A link to any screen can be passed on.
Four languages, no separate addresses yet
The switcher changes the language instantly, with no reload. The address stays the same, so the language versions don't have their own URLs yet.
Type that doesn't wait on the network
The connection to Google Fonts opens early, and text shows at once in a fallback font. The brand font swaps in as soon as it arrives.
Where it landed
The prototype was a draft of the buying path, clickable from the home page to order tracking, in four languages. The production shop is now being built to the BeHoneyBee brand book. Catalog, inventory and payments run on Medusa.js, content and collections in Payload CMS. We measured the numbers below on the running prototype.
